The Spin of Check 21
From: webword.com

" How often do you double check quotes? How often do you seek out multiple points of view? How often do you critically evaluate information?

Consider these two quotes on Check 21.

"Check 21 is sweeping new federal law that takes away your ability to get back your original paper checks. Under this law, consumers will be more likely to bounce checks and may find themselves paying higher bank fees. The complicated new law gives you some rights, but those rights depend on a variety of factors, including how the merchant and the bank decide to process your check." (Source: Consumers Union)

...versus...

"Check 21 is a federal law that is designed to enable banks to handle more checks electronically, which should make check processing faster and more efficient. Today, banks often must physically move original paper checks from the bank where the checks are deposited to the bank that pays them. This transportation can be inefficient and costly. Check 21 becomes effective on October 28, 2004." (Source: U.S. Federal Reserve Board)

The Colors of the Candidates (2004 Debate)
From: webword.com

" I'm always looking at colors. Colors on web sites, colors of signs, colors in games, colors in movies, and so on. Color is very important, mostly as a matter of symbolism.

On 30-Sept-2004 (yesterday) I paid attention to the colors the candidates were wearing in the debate. First, I noticed that Kerry wore a red tie and Bush wore a blue tie. Why? My guess -- although it is only a guess -- is that since Kerry is a democrat, he wore red, and since Bush is a Republican, he wore blue. (Did anyone else think that Kerry was wearing a light blue dress shirt?)

Unfortunately, I can't figure out why red means democrat and blue means republican. I know that political parties use colors to represent their affiliations, but I just don't know why red is democrat and blue is republican. The connection seems more a matter of symbolism and history than any real physical or "hard" connection (e.g., red is blood).

On a final note aobut color, why do you think that the Laura Bush and Teresa Heinz Kerry both wore white? Were they both trying to display purity, cleanliness, and truth? Or, perhaps goodness, perfection, and virginity?"

IE--embraced, extended, extinct?
From: webword.com

" News.com -- "Redmond rejects that notion, saying instead that the long wait for an IE update is an indication of the work it's putting into the next incarnation of the browser. If Microsoft's plans pan out, it will unveil dramatic new features that will take Web browsing to an entirely new level--in many ways stepping beyond the browser completely."

But, the new browser will be cooked right into Longhorn. This will force you to upgrade if you want the new browser candy. Also, what "new level" of browsing can we expect? Better searching? More integration with Office? Does anyone have a clue?
