REAL Internet Gurus' Secret #1

Copyright 2004 By Willie Crawford

To become a big on-line success, you need to study and
model those who have already done what you intend to
accomplish. You need to learn from teachers, coaches,
and mentors who have already figured out the formula.

In choosing who you are going to learn from, you need to
be able to discern the fakes from those who've actually
DONE what they're offering to teach you. You need to
develop the skill of discovering those whom I often call
"The REAL Gurus."

The skill of finding and learning from the real gurus isn't
as hard as you would first think. That's because they
all possess many common traits. Find someone who
exhibits most, or all of these "guru traits," and you've
found "the real deal." Today, let's look at one of the most
glaring traits...

Real Internet gurus' secret number 1 is that they're all
people of action. They see something that's a great idea,
something that they want to test, something that needs doing...
and they do it!

While most of us come up with lots of great ideas, we seldom
act upon them. While many of us read tons of books and
articles, make notes on the key ideas they offer, and even plan
on implementing them "when time permits," we rarely get
around to just doing it!

The super successful on-line entrepreneurs that I know are just
the extreme opposite. My coach is a perfect example. We'll
discuss a problem or project, come up with a solution we agree
upon, and then he strongly suggests that I do it right away.
In-fact, he'll say something like "let's do that by tomorrow and
then track the results."

This millionaire guru knows that ideas are a dime a dozen and
that ideas never made anyone rich or wildly successful. Taking
action did.

Spend any time around super successful people and you'll see
this trait exhibited constantly. They'll be in a conversation with
someone and after a great idea is discussed, they'll turn to
their assistant or webmaster and say, "Take care of that
tomorrow for me."

That's another trait they all exhibit too - they know how to
delegate and use others so that they aren't overwhelmed. This
is a trait we'll cover in another article though.

When you really think about this very simple trait of taking
IMMEDIATE action, you'll see that it IS a very important trait.
It's what'll gives you a supreme advantage in the marketplace.
While your competitors are thinking about it, you'll be doing it.
The winners take the idea or product to market first! While
others spend a lot of time studying an idea, gurus get known
as the ones who "introduced" the idea or product to market.

I'm sure you've seen the above demonstrated over and over
again. You come up with a great idea, and jot it down
somewhere. It's an absolutely brilliant idea. Three months later,
you see some famous "guru" marketing "your" idea.

What just happened when you see your idea being marketed by
someone else? The time was right for the product or service.
Conditions were ideal and that's part of what generated the idea.
Circumstances and real need generated the idea. Many people
came up with the idea, or similar ideas, at the same time. Most
took no action. That one trait, the habit of taking decisive action,
is what continuously gives some people the edge!

You see this over and over throughout history. The people who
become rich and famous aren't necessarily the first to come up
with an idea.... they're the ones who did what it took to make it
happen. Wilbur and Orville Wright weren't the first to come up
with the idea of an airplane very similar to the one that caused
history books to record them as aviation pioneers. They are
remembered because they possessed guru trait number 1.

Now that you are aware of this trait on a conscious level, you'll
start to notice it more in those you deal with on the Internet. As
you spend time studying the big names in your niche, you'll see
it over and over again in a select few. You'll smile, and nod your
head, because you now know REAL Internet Gurus' Secret #1.

Make that secret a part of you... a part of your habit pattern, and
you're well on your way!

The Perfect Internet Product - A Cookbook?

Copyright 2004 by Willie Crawford

So you've decided to go into business for yourself on the
internet. You've heard it's the perfect way to supplement
your income with little or no investment. But what will you
market to achieve fame and fortune?

Actually it all depends upon your goals and interests. You
do need to offer something for which there is a proven
demand. You need something that can be delivered cost
effectively over the internet. You need something that you
can easily locate the market for.

Why not write you own cookbook?

Why a cookbook?

- Everybody eats.
- People are constantly looking for new ways to prepare their
favorite foods.
- Many people are avid cookbook and recipe collectors.
- You can create an ebook that has practically no delivery
cost.
- You can print hardcopies later from the profits of your
ebook or you can use print-on-demand to have copies printed
as needed.
- Most people have or can compile a collection of their
favorite recipes.

Writing a cookbook involves pulling together some recipes,
some photos or illustrations, and organizing your collection.
You need some specialized theme to write your cookbook around.
You can create a cookbook around a single food, a style of
cooking, or around a purpose such as a charity.

Once you've written your cookbook, then your challenge may be
in marketing it. As a seasoned cookbook author here are the
elements I consider essential:

- A website to use in attracting visitors interested in your
topic. Ideally, this website will contain content that gets
you great search engine listings and traffic. A website can cost
under $10 per month.

- A mailing list to discuss your cookbook or the type of food
covered by your cookbook (to create interest in your cookbook).
You can run your mailing list at no cost spending only an hour
or so a week.

- A system on your website for taking orders. This can be as
simple as a free Paypal account or more elaborate such as a
shopping cart that can handle a variety of products. You can
even have an affiliate program where you pay other webmasters
for sending you referrals.

Putting together a cookbook is really little more than
planning, getting organized, and then just doing it!

But can you really make big money selling your own cookbook.
The answer to that very important question is that you can
if you can generate enough interest or attract enough
attention. That is where the majority of your work will come
in. You will need to learn effective internet marketing
techniques and implement them.

Since writing and publishing a cookbook does involve so
little work, it can prove profitable even if you don't sell a
million copies a year. Your overhead will be so low that if
you only earn a few thousand dollars a month, you will be
doing great. The cookbook will sell for a long time, while
requiring no additional work.

One of the secrets of many successful online entrepreneurs
that I know is that they don't try to make a fortune from
just one product. Instead, they have several... perhaps a
dozen products each generating a nice income. Combined, these
products, generating multiple streams of income, allow these
entrepreneurs to reach their online income goals.

Of all of the products that you could create and market
online, a cookbook is one of the few requiring no
specialized knowledge or training. So for many internet
beginners, it makes sense to make their first product a
cookbook. Start generating some quick income. Then focus on
other related or unrelated products.

If you'd like to learn more of the step-by-step details on
writing your cookbook, you need to learn from someone who's
done it. A good place to begin is by visiting the site
http://writeacookbook.com At this site three experienced
cookbook authors explain everything involved. Their cookbooks
range from German cooking, to soul food and Southern cooking,
to recipes for your dog. That gives you an idea of the
possibilities.

Is Your Email Address "Blacklisted?"

© Jim Edwards - All Rights reserved

A lady emailed me yesterday very upset over the fact that
her friend's Internet Service Provider (ISP) wasn't
delivering important email messages (or any of her messages
for that matter).

It seems her friend's ISP was filtering her emails, but
there didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why
some messages got through and others didn't.

This lack of delivery caused a real problem for the two of
them with ruined plans, missed appointments, and just plain
inconvenience.

If you don't use email much, this might not sound like a
"big deal," but for others it's having a profoundly
negative impact on their lives.

This problem of non-delivery has dramatically affected the
way businesses use email for about the last year, but it's
now about to reach epidemic proportions for consumers using
email.

To put things into perspective, imagine if every time you
dialed a friend's phone number you had no idea whether it
would ring or not. Sometimes you got through, other times
you couldn't... with seemingly no reason for it happening
either way.

Now imagine the hair-pulling frustration you'd feel over
time if your friend's phone number hadn't changed, but you
kept dialing the number and it never EVER rang for you...
but others could get through with seemingly no problem. :-
That's exactly how you'll feel when your personal emails
start getting blocked for no apparent reason.

The problem of legitimate email messages not getting
through stems from the uncontrolled and unstoppable
onslaught of spam that currently grips the Internet with
seemingly no end in sight.

The fact that viruses can now "spoof" email addresses and
make it look like someone sent a virus to thousands of
people doesn't help matters either.

In an effort to cut down on spam, ISP's implemented a
number of counter-measures, including: text filters, spam
databases, sender blacklists, and IP blocking.

If your email message doesn't get delivered, most of the
time it means you inadvertently got caught in an ISP's
"defense system."

If you ever find your email messages don't get through, or
if you'd like to head off problems before they occur, the
following tips should help:

The first and best tip is to encourage all your email
contacts to "whitelist" your email address in their email
program.

Just like you can say which email addresses you don't want
to get messages from, you can also specify a list of email
addresses you always DO WANT to accept.

In Yahoo or Hotmail you can set up your filters to accept
email messages from a certain source, regardless of the
subject line or content of the message. Your friends and
subscribers can do the exact same thing with your email
address by adding you to their "whitelist" so you don't
miss each other's emails.

It takes a little patience to set up, but it pays big
dividends by not losing important messages.

If you use Eudora, Outlook, Outlook Express, MailWasher,
or just about any other email "client" program, you can set
up rules to always accept messages from certain senders
(just check the help file).

If you send messages to people who use AOL, try this
technique. Get them to add you to their address book
"safelist" or "approved senders."

This helps AOL identify that the message recipient "knows"
you and has a higher likelihood of actually wanting to
receive your message.

Email AOL tech support for help on this if you encounter a
problem.

If filtering and "white" listing don't work and your email
messages are still getting blocked, then your friend needs
to contact their ISP to sort out the problem.

Their ISP can certainly figure out why messages don't get
through, but it may take some concerted encouragement to
get the ISP's customer service to take the time to
investigate the cause. (In other words, they may have to do
some serious complaining to get the ISP to get up off their
butts and do anything about the problem, but you must
encourage them to do it!)
